TMJ
Problems with the jaw and facial muscles that control it are properly called Tempomandibular Joint Disorders or TMD and afflict some 75 million people in this country. CMP Dental Group is a Syracuse TMD dentist with years of experience in aiding the treatment of these disorders, in providing gentle, effective, and affordable TMD relief to our patients, and in enabling them to again enjoy full oral and facial comfort.
TMJ Risks
TMD is commonly and mistakenly called TMJ, the joint or hinge connecting your jaw to the temporal bones in front of each ear that enables jaw movement for talking and chewing. In this common usage TMJ is a collective term for jaw muscle, jaw joint (TMJ), facial muscle, and facial nerve disorders that may produce jaw pain, difficulty in opening and closing the mouth, sensitive teeth, headaches, earaches, orofacial pain, and possibly fibromyaglia.
TMJ Causes
These disorders may be caused by trauma to the jaw, arthritis of the jaw joint, tumors of the jaw joint, teeth grinding and clenching, poor alignment of teeth, tension, and stress.
